Russia Battling for Time

 Russia Battling for Time

At this point in the war, it is obvious that Russia is battling for time, and they are, to some degree, accomplishing this mission. Russia is losing large amounts of equipment on a daily basis — between five and ten tanks per day, up to 40 pieces of artillery and MLRS systems, a dozen or so armored vehicles, along with the occasional submarine. The pace during the last three months has been significantly higher since the start of the war, and attrition is taking its toll.

Positioning one's army to buy time during a defensive operation makes sense in only two cases.

First, to organize a stronger defensive posture, which Russia has already accomplished in digging thousands of miles of trenches, laying minefields, and the like. Second, to prepare for a counterattack.

Both scenarios assume the existence of reserve forces that would be put in either defensive positions or set staging for a counterattack. This brings us to the main question, and that is, where are these forces?
