If there is a will there is a way- In context of the world’s largest Democracy
If there is a will there is a way- In India’s context, the world’s largest Democracy.
It’s a very famous quote that is prevalent in today’s industries especially in career counselling or if you want to get that initial spark to do something that you think is beyond your capacity. First published in 1640, by George Herbert in his book ‘Jacula Prudentusm’, this has been the lifeline quote for many and continues to do so.
In Politics, it’s recently been seen in Indian (Bharat) context. Indian Parliament passed the iconic Women Reservation Bill 2023 (Nari Shakti Vandam Adhiniyam) that seeks 33%, one-third reservation for women in Lower House and all the state legislatures with almost full majority except the two partial noes as they wanted fixed sub-quota for women from Other Backward Classes as well along with pre-decided scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The bill became an act, One hundred twenty eighth Constitutional Amendment Act when it got the assent of the head of the state, the president and Wallah! Here we have what we have been wishing for since the time we got independence.
It’s been 77 years since India got legally independent from the British colonial rule. And since then we have established ourselves as the world’s largest democracy with the highest growth-oriented demography and a top-notch player in global economy. India recently surpassed its colonial ruler (United Kingdom) and became the fifth largest economy excelling in almost every nascent sector like renewable energy. It became pioneer in harnessing from sun and biofuel. As it hosted G 20 (now G 21 as African union to join), it established Global Bio-fuel Alliance being the first such nation to step towards zero-carbon emissions.
Being the highest populous nation with peace promoting approach in International Politics and multi-diverse elements, it can be seen from a critical perspective that why it took more than seven decades for us to ensure and inscribe one of the most important Sustainable Development Goal i.e. Gender Parity and reduced inequalities into our holy Constitution as 128th Constitutional Amendment Act.
