Birding From The Houseboat: Greatest Takes Of The Summer P1

Every morning on Lake Huron I am hoping for a moment like this one. They don’t all turn out that way. This rainy morning offered a perfect opportunity to try out the houseboat as a photo studio.

I checked out the view and selected a window to set up my camera.

Just ducks. It is late in the season for such little ones. That might be why there are only two. Then, the bird I was hoping for. The great blue heron arrived. Great blue herons weigh in at about five pounds. They can stand a little over four feet tall. They have a wingspan that sometimes stretches beyond 6 feet. Logistically, they could be overweight, and unfit to fly, if it weren’t for their hollow bones. The heron’s neck can wind up into an S shape, tucked away when crouching to hunt or flying. Birds are brilliantly designed.

The wet and wild weather caused some of the scraggly plumage to be a little extra scraggly.
