Navigating Weight Gain: A Tech Remote Worker’s Journey to Rebuilding Confidence and Embracing Healthier Habits.
As the dawn of remote work broke, I, like many, found solace in the absence of rush-hour traffic, the luxury of a more relaxed morning, and the newfound freedom to work from the comfort of my own space. The shift promised a more comfortable and flexible work-life balance, a welcome departure from the rigid confines of the traditional office. Yet, as the days turned into weeks and weeks into months, I began to realize that this modern convenience was not without its own set of unique challenges. The prolonged hours of sitting, the subtle weight gain that seemed to creep in unannounced but in my case, not subtle.
Last year, I embarked on my journey into the world of total remote tech work as a Product designer, the promise of a flexible schedule, a cozy home office, and the ability to escape the daily commute was incredibly enticing. As a Lagosian, getting stuck in traffic is a nightmare to most of us even though it has become our lifestyle, everyday still feels equally annoying. I am very vocal about how I enjoy working from home especially because I am not a morning person. The first few weeks were marked by a sense of liberation, and I dwelled in the new found freedom that came with working from home. That was literally my favorite “tech sis era purrrrrrr” moment.
