Migrant Matters — now open for submissions

Migrant, Immigrant, & Refugee Rights Alliance (MIRR Alliance) is a coalition of individuals and organizations working to protect and advance the rights of migrants, immigrants, and refugees. Through coalition building, narrative change, and opportunities for learning and dialogue on complex policy questions, we amplify our collective advocacy on behalf of those who are uprooted, on the move, and in need of social and political protection.

Migrant Matters is the blog portion of our efforts and features content about current topics in migration. We are seeking submissions for our publication from novice, current, and aspiring writers. The writing of migrants is especially welcome for publication. We accept critical think-pieces about migration and lighter, reader-friendly commentary pieces about immigrants, their journeys, and their contributions. This is a fantastic opportunity to share your work on migration related topics with a new audience.

Submission guidelines

Pieces may range from 300–1000 words, with longer pieces considered depending on content.

Submissions must have a clear connection to migration in a United States or international context, which may include policy commentary, personal stories, interviews, and lighter pop-culture type pieces like “the top five movies about migration”, etc.

As an organization that supports the rights of immigrants, we also welcome and encourage advocacy pieces.

All published pieces include at least one image, which can be supplied by the author or provided by MIRR Alliance.

Authors should contact MIRR Alliance at mirralliance [at] gmail [.com] with the piece they wish to submit to Migrant Matters. If accepted, and the author has an account on Medium, MIRR Alliance will provide information on completing the submission process through Medium. Otherwise, the posting will be made by Migrant Matters and the author’s name will be included in the article as the contributor.
