Watching Peacocks in California
I saw a peacock picture and could not stop marveling. It’s easily one of the most beautiful birds. Huge, with a long indigo neck, head crest, and resplendent, iridescent plumage. If it spreads its tail, it can mesmerize the beholder.t’s the National bird of India, no wonder. Lord Krishna wears a peacock plume. It's the vehicle of the war-god Kartikeya or Murugan. Many Indian poets have immortalized the bird
I had no idea that I could see peacocks in California! I saw them in county fairs but got to meet the free-range, roaming peacocks in San Diego Zoo and Irvine Regional Park.
I would see them climb up the oak and fig trees and strut across the lawn. They whipped my nostalgia. They inspired me that it’s possible to adapt to a new environment. Also, I would see the peahens, often with chicks. They are not as elegant as the males. In birds, males are often attractive, and females get to choose. In humans, females have become the objects of beauty.
Anyway, the peacock sure is one of the most spectacular birds in the avian world.
But despite their glamorous look, they can consume snakes!
Have you seen one?
