Have you ever attempted to be impolite with ChatGPT? I’m certain you’ve conducted some playful experiments. Just yesterday, I found myself pondering whether ChatGPT can actually provide varying responses based on the politeness level of inquiries. So, I decided to ask ChatGPT. You’ll be surprised, but I am usually polite in my prompts on ChatGPT. Admittedly, I’m aware that it’s merely a computer program. Nevertheless, I often phrase my requests as if I were conversing with a sentient being, which might seem peculiar. Upon reflection, it doesn’t seem so strange after all. Politeness is a fundamental aspect of our social manners, or at least for a significant portion of people. It’s the way we typically engage with others.
Technology has been a part of our lives for quite some time, but we truly started having conversations with our devices once Alexa came into the picture. I believe that we are still adapting to this kind of non-human interactions. At the end of the day, we are evolving and continuously refining our approach to effectively communicate with others, employing the best strategies to capture attention and achieve our objectives in various everyday situations. Politeness is one of these strategies; it’s one of the oldest tactics for gaining acceptance among peers, at work, in new job settings, and at school.
